Unbox the Room
Unbox the Room is a simulation game about unpacking belongings and putting them into a new home. The game follows a woman through different moves from 1997 to 2018. Each room gives you another set of boxes to open, along with small details about the stage of her life at that time.
Start With the Boxes
A new room begins with cardboard boxes scattered around the space. Click a box to take out an item, then move it around until you find a sensible place for it.
The objects are familiar household items. Books can be placed on shelves, clothes can go into drawers or wardrobes, and kitchenware belongs in the kitchen. You can arrange many things to your liking, but an item still has to be in the right area.
There is no countdown, so there is no reason to rush. Look at the room, check what you have unpacked, and work out where each object fits.
Check Your Arrangement
When you think you are finished, the game checks the room. An item that is in the wrong place will glow red. Pick it up and move it somewhere more suitable. This gives you a simple way to find anything you missed. You do not need to guess whether the room is complete because the misplaced objects are pointed out for you.

Discover the Story
The rooms are set across different years, beginning in May 1997 and moving forward to 2018. The objects change as the woman's life changes. Her belongings are part of the story. A room can show what she likes, what she needs, and how her situation has changed without stopping the game for long explanations. Paying attention to the objects gives the different rooms more meaning.
Game Experience
Unbox the Room is quiet and unhurried. There are no scores, enemies, or time limits. Most of the work is simply opening boxes and deciding where things belong.
The little sounds also add character to the rooms. Books, ceramic items, and clothes have different sounds when handled. Once the last misplaced item is sorted out, the room feels finished and ready for the next move.
